How To Protect Your Home After a Loss
Taking these steps following a loss will protect your home and expedite the claims process.
- Report your claim immediately by calling toll free 1-877-900-2280.
- Make temporary repairs as necessary to prevent further damage and protect your property.
- Take photos of the damage prior to making temporary repairs.
- Keep detailed receipts and present them to the adjuster.
Prior to Storm Season
Take the following important steps:
- Make sure your insurance coverage matches the value of your home.
- Consider purchasing additional coverage, such as flood
insurance, which is not covered under your Southern
Oak policy.
- Review your annual hurricane deductible, which is typically
2-5% of the insured value of your home.
- Check to see if you have actual cash value or replacement
coverage for your contents. Actual cash value coverage
pays only the depreciated value of your contents.
- Verify that your policy information is correct. Make
sure your mortgage company information accurately appears
on your policy. Contact your agent immediately to change
your mortgage information.
- Keep your policy documents safe. Place copies of your
policy in your safe deposit box or leave them with
an out-of-town relative.
